This was an awesome experience and I would definitely do it again
I volunteered at D.C. Virgo on September 19th for Wins Up For Wilmington. D.C. Virgo is the UNCW kindergarten to eighth grade lab school. There, I helped improve the school building. During my service, I painted cabinets in the art rooms and inlays on the wall in the middle school. Doing this service helped to make the school a little better and more enjoyable for the students, staff, and teachers. This activity served the UNCW community because D.C. Virgo is affiliated with UNCW and hosts several classes, internships, student teaching, etc., so improving it helps make the space better for UNCW students and teachers. For UNCW students majoring in education. Additionally, the Wilmington community has D.C. Virgo as a school, so improving it helps those, especially the students, staff, and their families, by making their space a little nicer. This experience really taught me that the little things really can make the biggest difference. Each person who volunteered didn’t do a whole lot on their own; each person painted a couple of things, but when everyone came together at the end, all the little things came together to make it look a lot better. Throughout the event, I felt privileged because I realized what a blessing it was to grow up in a school and community that cared so deeply about my school and me, just as I was helping to do for the kids and staff at D.C. Virgo. This experience has prepared me to serve my community in the future by showing me a place where I can regularly do so. I hope that I can go back to volunteer at D.C. Virgo again soon. I especially liked that I could tell how much this experience and the help really were going to impact and benefit the D.C. Virgo community. I am grateful that this opportunity allowed me to see one of the schools in the Wilmington community that I will get to see and familiarize myself with more as I progress through my degree in elementary education. Additionally, I got to meet some very kind and generous people who work at the school that really showed me the loving and caring community around and in D.C. Virgo. Overall, my experience volunteering at D.C. Virgo was one full of positivity, hope, joy, and gratitude.
